A private city tour runs 3 to 4 hours in an air-conditioned vehicle. The free walking tour covers the historic center on foot in about 2 hours. The extra time and the vehicle let this tour drive beyond the walkable Centro loop, reaching landmarks the free tour cannot.

For some travelers, yes. If you are on a tight budget and staying in the Centro, the free walking tour covers the main historic square well. It works best if you are comfortable walking for two hours and do not mind a fixed meeting time. It just will not reach the landmarks outside the walkable center, and it does not include hotel pickup or air-conditioned transportation.
Expect a relaxed half-day that mixes walking through the pedestrian-friendly historic center with air-conditioned drive time to reach the sites farther out. Midday sun in Merida is strong, so the guide paces the walking stops around the shade. If it rains, the guide moves the walking segments under cover and adjusts the route, so the tour continues instead of getting cancelled.

Yes. If you add the optional food tour, let us know about any dietary restrictions when you book. The Lucas de Galvez Market tastings and the cantina stop can be adjusted for vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free diets. If you skip the add-on, lunch is on your own after the tour, so the same flexibility applies wherever you choose to eat.
