Itinerary based on normal highway conditions
No. This trip does not go down to the beach at the foot of the Tulum cliff. Your free hour is for photos and for walking the Jaguar Park along the clifftop. The swimming happens inland instead, away from the Tulum coast.
Yes, all of them. Most tours to the Tulum ruins leave the gate fee for you to pay on arrival, and lunch is usually on you as well. We settle the Tulum gate fee, the cenote entry, the park access and your lunch before you travel. You need no cash during the day.
Two things: the size of the group and what you pay on the day. At Xaman-Ha Connections® we cap the group at 10 travelers in our own van, instead of 40 or more in a coach. We make no affiliate shopping stops. Large commercial tours often advertise a low headline price and then collect the Tulum gate fee and lunch separately.
We built this for travelers staying in Cancun who want the ruins and a cenote in one organised day, without driving or buying tickets. Prefer your own departure time, a longer stay at the ruins, a second cenote or only your own party? Our private Tulum ruins and cenote day trip is the better fit.
A long day with two very different halves. The Tulum ruins stand on open ground above the sea, with almost no shade. It turns hot by late morning, and the walking is on uneven stone. The cenote afterwards is cool and calm by comparison. Weather can close the site or the cenote, and we tell you as soon as we know.
Tulum is the only walled Mayan city built on a cliff facing the Caribbean Sea. It served as a trading port, and its landmark structures are El Castillo and the Temple of the Wind God. The site is managed by INAH, Mexico's national institute for anthropology and history.
We collect you at your hotel lobby in three areas:
- Cancun Hotel Zone
- Playa Mujeres
- Costa Mujeres
Yes. Xaman-Ha Connections® is a SECTUR licensed operator, our guides are certified by INAH, and every client is covered by full liability insurance. The company has been featured in Forbes and Kayak. See more about our team and credentials on our About page.
Practical Travel Guide
Pack light and plan for sun and water:
- Comfortable walking shoes, since the ground at the ruins is uneven stone
- A hat and light clothing for the open clifftop, where there is little shade
- Swimsuit and towel for the cenote
- Biodegradable sunscreen only, applied before pickup, because regular sunscreen is not allowed in the water
- No drones or tripods at the archaeological site without an INAH permit
We welcome children from four years old. We do not run this tour for guests with limited mobility. The ground at the ruins is uneven, and the cenote is not adapted either. Tell us about any health concerns when you book so we can advise honestly.
Vegetarian, yes. Lunch is a regional meal with a drink, and we arrange a vegetarian version with advance notice. For vegan, gluten-free or allergy needs, tell us when you book so we can check with the restaurant first.
Yes. You can cancel up to 24 hours before departure for a full refund, and cancellations are only valid by email. See our Cancellation Policy for full details.
